How to open Device Manager

Device Manager is an internal Windows tool to view and manage device hardware settings and driver software installed on your computer.

Device Manager lets you view and manage hardware devices and their drivers. You can use it to check if your camera or microphone is properly recognized, update drivers, or troubleshoot device issues.

Methods to open Device Manager

  1. Right-click on the Start button (Windows icon in the bottom left corner)
  2. Select Device Manager from the menu

Keyboard shortcut: Press Win + X, then press M

What to look for

In Device Manager, expand these categories to find your devices:

  • Cameras — your webcam should be listed here
  • Audio inputs and outputs — microphones and speakers
  • Sound, video and game controllers — audio drivers

A yellow warning icon indicates a driver problem. Right-click the device and select "Update driver" to fix it.
