PS5 & PS4 Controller Touchpad Test

Test the touch surface of a DualSense or DualShock 4 in your browser. Trace the whole pad to find dead spots, check two-finger tracking, and verify the click.

Connect the controller by USB or Bluetooth, then pick it from the list your browser shows. Nothing is installed and no data leaves your computer.

How to Test a PS5 or PS4 Controller Touchpad Online

This tool reads touch data straight from a PlayStation controller, so it shows exactly where your fingers land on the pad — not just whether the pad clicks.

What this test shows

Three things at once: the touch surface, multi-touch, and the click. Your finger position is drawn on the pad in real time and leaves a trail behind it, a counter shows how many fingers the controller reports at once, and the pad's border lights up every time you press it down.

Finding dead spots

The pad is split into a grid of squares. Each square lights up the first time your finger is registered inside it, so a slow sweep across the whole surface reveals any area that stops responding. Dead spots usually show up as a stripe or a corner that stays dark no matter how many times you cross it.

Why it asks for device access

Browsers expose only the touchpad click through the standard gamepad interface, so reading finger positions needs direct access to the controller. That is what the connect button asks for: you pick the controller from the browser's device list, and the page starts reading its input reports. Everything is processed locally in your browser — no touch data is uploaded anywhere.

Fixing an unresponsive touchpad

Start by wiping the pad with a slightly damp microfibre cloth and drying it — sweat and grease are the most common cause of patchy tracking. Remove any skin or screen protector covering the pad, and try a USB cable if you were on Bluetooth. If a region still never registers, the touch digitizer itself is failing and the controller needs service.

Frequently asked questions

Connect the controller with a USB cable or over Bluetooth, press Connect controller, and pick it from the list your browser shows. Then slide a finger over the pad: your position is drawn live, and every square of the grid lights up as you cross it.
Finger coordinates are not part of the standard gamepad interface — the browser only reports the touchpad click. To read the touch surface, the page has to talk to the controller directly, which needs your explicit permission. You grant it once per controller, and you can revoke it in your browser's site settings at any time.
The PS5 DualSense and DualSense Edge, and the PS4 DualShock 4 in both its original and 2016 revisions. Xbox and Switch controllers have no touchpad at all. The DualSense reports a 1920×1080 surface and the DualShock 4 a 1920×942 one, and the test resizes itself to whichever is connected.
Yes. Over Bluetooth the controller starts in a reduced mode that omits touch data, so the page switches it into full reporting when it connects. A USB cable is still the more reliable option if the connection drops or the trail looks choppy.
Chrome, Edge, Opera, and other Chromium-based desktop browsers. Safari and Firefox do not support direct device access, so they can only test the touchpad click — use the full gamepad test there.
It is the share of the grid your fingers have reached. On a healthy touchpad, a few sweeps take it to 100%. If it stops short and the same squares stay dark every run, those areas of the surface are not registering touch.
Because the standard gamepad interface stops at the touchpad button. It appears there as an extra button beyond the usual sixteen, which the full gamepad test shows, but the finger positions behind it are simply not part of that interface.
Yes, completely free, with no download, registration, or account. The controller is read locally in your browser and no touch data leaves your device.
